Access
Sainte-Baume is in Provence, between the cities of Aix-en-Provence, Marseille and Toulon.
Different ways to come to sanctuary are described below.
The access to Grotto is by foot from the road.
Come by car
Please enter in your GPS the information below:
- For the city : Plan-d’Aups-Sainte-Baume
- For the place : D 80 Nazareth soit Nazareth
If you come from Aix-en-Provence or from Nice, take the exit Saint-Maximin (highway A8), and go to Nans-les-Pins, pass through the village (toward Plan-d’Aups-Sainte-Baume) and go up until the plateau of Sainte-Baume. Once there, turn right and 500 meters afterward you will find the Hostellery.
If you come from Marseilles, take the exit Auriol (highway A 52). At the crossroad of toll, turn right and at the first roundabout, take the first exit towards Plan-d’Aups-Sainte-Baume. Pass through the village and 2 kilometers later, you will find the Hostellery
.
If you come from Toulon, the easiest is to pass through the highway A 50, and then to take the highway A 52 after Cassis towards Aix-en-Provence ; take the exit Auriol and follow the indication as you come from Marseilles.
For a more touristic trip, take :
- the Espigoulier pass by Gémenos ,
- or through Soulies Pont, Roquebrussane and Mazaugues.
In order to go to the basilica of saint Mary Magdalene in Saint-Maximin from the Grotto
(or vice-versa).

Come by bus
From the airport of Marignane or from the TGV station in Aix en Provence, to Saint Maximin (20km from the sanctuary) : Regional Express Line (LER in French) 36
From the station in Aubagne to Saint-Zacharie, 3 shuttle buses/hours & 2 free bus (10km from the sanctuary) : line 8 & line 9
From Marseille Castellane to Nans-les-Pins :
Shuttle bus from Auriol or St Maximin to Plan d’Aups : school bus system, depending on the places available.
Come by train
The two closest TGV (high-speed train) stations are Aix-en-Provence and Marseilles.
The closest regional train station is Aubagne.
Come by plane
To land at the airport of Marseille- Provence.
